Perilous Press is now taking submissions for its NEW MILLENNIUM MYTHOS line. Editor S.T. Joshi outlines what we're looking for:
New Millennium Mythos is looking for innovative, dynamic treatments of H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Either novels or short story collections will be considered, but preference will be given to novels. We're not interested in stereotyped pastiches of tentacled monsters or Necronomicons or such, but treatments of Lovecraft's basic themes and motifs--the sense of the cosmic, the effects of knowledge upon the human psyche, the detailed evocation of a landscape of terror and weirdness--written in a generally contemporary style with strong, vivid characters and an emphasis on mood and atmosphere. In other words, we don't want Lovecraft pastiches so much as works that use Lovecraft's ideas and images as a springboard for vital, original writing.
Authors are advised to familiarize themselves with our previous releases and also Joshi's critical survey of the genre, The Rise And Fall Of The Cthulhu Mythos before querying or submitting.
Electronic submissions only. Send 5-10 page synopsis and complete, rigorously formatted manuscript as an attached Word or PDF file to Submisions. Include “Submission,” your name, the submission's title in the subject line. We will try to respond within 90 days, but please bear in mind that our resources are extremely limited and our publishing schedule is extremely tight, so our standards are extremely high.
